What is the best dog bed for your dog? Every dog needs it’s own dog bed ….. a safe and comfortable place to call their own.

There are many types of dog beds to fit your dog’s needs whether they are big or small. Which one is right for your dog?

Standard Dog Bed

A standard dog bed looks like a pillow or cushion and they are usually round, square, rectangle or oval. They come in many sizes and are made from many fabrics and colors.

They are stuffed with polyester filling or foam normally and have removable covers that can be washed. There are dog beds that are filled with cedar chips to deter insects and odors.

These dog beds are great for most dogs except for seniors dogs or dogs with orthopedic problems that need more support.

Nest Dog Bed

The nest dog bed is similar to the standard dog bed with the addition of a raised edge along the outer edge. The raised edge can go all the way around or just part of the way around.

The nest dog bed is for dogs that like to curl up in bed or they like to lean back on the raised edge. They work well for most dogs that don’t need extra support like senior dogs do.

Orthopedic Dog Bed

The orthopedic dog bed is designed for the senior dog or dogs with orthopedic problems. They are made using a high quality thick foam that releases pressure from their joints.

These beds work well for most dogs and they are available in a variety of colors, shapes and sizes. Senior dogs and thin dog breeds, such as the Greyhound, will benefit from these beds.

Kennel Dog Bed

The kennel or crate dog bed is made to fit inside a crate. It is flat on top with no rim and they are usually rectangle in shape. These beds are great for any dog.

They come in many sizes, fabrics and colors to fit your needs. Many of the crate beds are water resistant for easier cleaning.

Raised Dog Bed

Raised dog beds are raised off the floor using a frame made of wood, metal or plastic. This bed will put some distance between your dog and the floor.

Raised beds are not appropriate for older dogs, those with orthopedic problems, or dogs with short legs and long backs such as Dachshunds.

Covered Dog

A covered or hooded dog bed are good for hairless dogs and small dogs that tend to be cold such as Chihuahuas.

Some of these beds look like tents or small houses are usually made of plush materials for warmth and comfort. These are also good for dogs that like to hide.

Heated Dog Bed

A heated dog bed can be a great choice for dogs with joints that ache. The heat can be soothing for older dogs with arthritis.

Small dogs and thin dogs will enjoy the heat on their bodies when they are cold. Heated beds should be designed with safety features to provide protection for your dog.

Cooling Dog Bed

Cooling dog beds will help your dog cool off which is especially good to use in hot weather. Some dogs with long fur enjoy cooling beds all year long.
