Do you have a “hot” dog? It’s summertime and I have two “hot” dogs, Freckles and Dixie. They are happy and cooler dogs when I make them cold treats to eat!
Easy treat recipes that I make for Freckles and Dixie can be found below. These are their favorite cold treats to eat when it’s hot outside, especially after a walk or playtime when they need to cool off.
Make sure the peanut butter you use is unsalted, unsweetened and smooth. Do not use peanut butter that contains xylitol, which is an artificial sweetener that is toxic to your dog.
Also remove the core and seeds from apples before using. The seeds are toxic to dogs and the core can be harmful to your dog.

Peanut Butter Treat
Take a Kong type toy and fill it with peanut butter, then freeze. This will keep your dog busy while they eat the peanut butter and this will also cool them off at the same time. Sometimes I will add small treats to the peanut butter before filling the toy.
1 cup watermelon, cubed
1 cup ice cubes
Place the watermelon and ice cubes in a blender. Blend until smooth. Pour the mixture into a dog bowl and let your dog enjoy this cool treat.
You control the ingredients that are in your dog’s treats and they are actually healthy and enjoyable for your dog. You may want to try one yourself!
When I make the watermelon slush, I give Freckles and Dixie each their own bowl, and I save some for me! I pour it in a glass and enjoy a refreshing drink along with my fur babies 🙂
